CSSV’s Governance and Finance Committee is the backbone of the organisation. Without its vital guidance and oversight, the everyday functioning and work of CSSV would not be possible.
The Governance and Finance Committee is responsible for monitoring, reviewing and reporting upon CSSV’s operational, financial, risk and governance activities. This includes oversight of the annual budget, financial performance, compliance with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission regulations, reviewing risk management frameworks, monitoring the governance of Council, monitoring CSSV’s strategic relationships with the Catholic Church and non-Church organisations, and conducting triennial reviews of the CSSV constitution. The Governance and Finance Committee has been indispensable in times of structural change, including during the creation and adoption of the new CSSV Constitution in 2023.
In addition to this Committee, CSSV is also immensely grateful to the finance team at the Catholic Archdiocese of Melbourne for their invaluable support and advice in CSSV’s finances and financial record-keeping.

The Chair, Treasurer and members of the committee are appointed by the CSSV Council for a two-year period, with eligibility for reappointment. At present, the Committee is made up of individuals from CSSV member organisations and beyond, including: the Chair – John Murphy, the Treasurer – James Findlay (Good Shepherd Australia New Zealand), Peter Hudson (Ear and Eye Hospital Melbourne), Tony Fitzgerald and Cathy Humphrey (CSSV Council Chair). Their varied experiences and organisational backgrounds bring a wealth of knowledge to the Committee, ensuring the smooth operation of CSSV.
