ACRATH’s National Conference

Register now for ACRATH’s two-day national conference on 22nd and 23rd of February. Join the online Gathering Voices conference, and hear two outstanding keynote speakers provide a global and Australian perspective on human trafficking.

The conference runs each day from 12.00 noon -3.30 pm (AEDT) via zoom. Participants are encouraged to commit to attending the whole of each session on both days so as to benefit from the entire program.

The theme of the conference is, Gathering Voices – action towards a world free of Human Trafficking and Modern Slavery. Sr Gabriella Bottani smc, International Coordinator Talitha Kum, will provide an international focus and Laurie Berg, Associate Professor Faculty of Law, University of Technology Sydney will offer an Australian focus.

The conference will also include a Q & A session, facilitated spiritual reflection and discussion groups.

Registration opens on Tuesday 1 February 2022 and closes on Friday 11 February.

Laurie Berg
Associate Professor Facility of Law, University of Technology Sydney

Laurie Berg is widely recognised as one of Australia’s leading legal researchers on migrant workers’ rights. She has conducted major international and national studies on migrant worker wage theft, exploitation and access to justice in Australia, and globally. Her 2016 book, Migrant Rights at Work, was the first on migrant workers’ rights in Australia.  Prior to her academic appointment, Laurie held posts at Human Rights First in New York, the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees in Washington DC and the Australian Red Cross in Sydney.

Sr Gabriella Bottani smc
International Coordinator Talitha Kum

Sr Gabriella Bottani smc, is the International Coordinator of Talitha Kum, and has been a member of the national coordination team since 2009. Talitha Kum is an anti-trafficking network of Catholic women’s and men’s religious orders. On 20 June 2019, Sr Gabriella was honoured as a Trafficking in Person (TIP) Report Hero by the then US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo at the US Department of State in Washington, DC.  Sr Gabriella is based in Rome.
