The Mogg-Matha Fellowship is a program for a selected group of emerging leaders in Catholic social services who are interested in systems change for the most vulnerable in our society. Over 2027, the cohort will have the opportunity to build peer connections, gain leadership skills, and learn from experts in the sector through a short immersion program and other ongoing learning opportunities.
Fr Kevin Mogg PE AM and Sr Toni Matha IBVM AM
This fellowship honours two of CSSV’s foundational leaders – Fr Kevin Mogg and Sr Toni Matha. As Episcopal Vicar for Social Services, Fr Kevin recognised the need for stronger coordination across Catholic social service agencies and established an organisation to facilitate collaboration and advocacy – now known as Catholic Social Services Victoria. Sr Toni Matha was instrumental in establishing the organisation and was the first Executive Officer. This fellowship continues their legacy by supporting the development and formation of young people, grounded in a spirit of justice and compassion – something Fr Kevin and Sr Toni were particularly passionate about.
The Fellowship includes:
- A two-day, overnight group immersion, including facilitated sessions with expert speakers on the areas of focus
- A ticket to CSSV’s next conference
- Cohort gatherings throughout the year
- Invitations to CSSV events
- Learning resources
Areas of focus
- Leadership — What does it take to lead teams, organisations and institutions for social and personal transformation for the benefit of the most vulnerable?
- Systems Change — What does it take to have an impact in the Australian political environment?
- Reflective Practice — What does it take to be good at your job? What practices can assist our work for those we work to serve, while also looking after ourselves and our colleagues?
- Working in the Catholic care ecosystem — How might this inspire a different way of working and thinking? How might we approach social issues from the dynamic tradition that sustains our organisations?
Who can apply?
The fellowship is for younger and emerging leaders who are involved in or interested in the work of Catholic social services. While there is no age limit, and we encourage anyone who believes they fit the intention of the fellowship to apply, applicants should be interested in continued work and leadership in Catholic social services and adjacent sectors.
Requirements for application:
- You work or volunteer for a Catholic social service organisation, OR
- You have a strong interest in Catholic social services.
A member of CSSV (organisation, associate or life member) must support your application. If you do not know a member of CSSV, you are still welcome to apply, and we will contact you.
