Catholic Social Services Victoria welcomes and supports the development of individuals seeking to gain experience in social services and advocacy. Our internship program has been supporting students in their career development for a number of years. CSSV offers internships for university students who will earn credit points for their internships. We do not offer internships to those who will not earn academic credits.
Internship positions differ, depending on a student’s discipline and experience. Previous internships include social policy and communications internships for undergraduate and master’s students.
As part of our small, but agile team, interns will undertake a major project for the duration of their internship. Interns also gain a wide variety of office experience by working as part of the team, including attending committee meetings, assisting to organise events with our member organisations, creating content and copy for our website and newsletter, becoming familiar with the tools and programs we use, and networking within the sector at events we host and attend.
Previous internship projects include but are not limited to:
- A report mapping and analysing the Catholic Social Services Sector, identifying sector data trends
- An academic essay about community development as prevention and response in youth justice, including interviews with CSSV member organisations
- Developing family and domestic violence prevention material for Catholic churches
- A Victorian Government relations strategy
- A report analysing the Yoorrook Justice Commission findings and recommendations, making suggestions on how different parts of the Catholic community can support these
- A report analysing Victorian housing affordability policy
