The Olympic Village Exodus Community (Exodus) is an unincorporated charitable organization. It was established in 1998 with the purpose of working together as a community within the parish of St Pius X, Heidelberg West, to advocate on behalf of those experiencing powerlessness and disadvantage.
The live-in members of the Exodus Community are two Marist Brothers, Harry Prout and Doug Walsh, who volunteer their services to the community. They are supported by a Program Coordinator and around 50 volunteers.
Exodus collaborates with many other local organizations and agencies in order to advocate on behalf of and support local people. Where possible, Exodus ministries and works are conducted in Teams of volunteers thereby supporting, teaching and encouraging each other.
The people they walk with are generally on a very low income, some struggle with mental health issues or addiction, and many are single parent families and may have experienced family violence. Exodus provides opportunities for education and volunteering amongst the marginalised.
